Joe Biden LIVE: Biden Addresses USA For The First Time After Dropping Out Of Presidential Race
President Joe Biden delivered an Oval Office address on Wednesday to tell the people about his decision to leave the presidency next January, and the choice voters will face at the polls this fall.
In the address, which lasted over 11 minutes, Biden thanked the American people for believing in him, and said that despite feeling like he had earned a chance at a second term based on his administration’s accomplishments, he was willing to step aside to "save democracy" in the U.S.
Biden strongly endorsed Kamala Harris for President stating she is strong and capable. Biden also made a cryptic comment about having to step aside to save the Democratic Party, which on the back of great pressure from his own coterie to step aside.
Biden’s speech focussed on what he delivered to the American people, including claims on gun violence, the Ukraine War, the situation with Russia’s Putin, among other issues. Biden spoke about what he would do in the next 6 months in Office while keeping at bay all demands of resignation. He said he would work on Supreme Court reform, Climate action, and ensuring that violence is down in America.
Biden’s speech skipped all mention of Trump, the assassination bid on him as well as the failures of the Secret Service and its former director Kimberly Cheatle who wasn’t sacked, but forced to resign.
