As the Bhopal Gas Tragedy marks its 40th anniversary, 42 colonies in the city continue to face severe groundwater contamination, leading to ongoing health issues. Ashish Majumdar, a Bhopal resident, tragically lost his entire family to illnesses caused by polluted water. Doctors attribute the family’s deteriorating health to consumption of contaminated groundwater near the site of the Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant, where the deadly methyl isocyanate gas leaked in 1984. Ashish, now battling a skin condition, is one of many residents who continue to suffer the consequences of this industrial disaster.
