Bengal Voter List Row: BJP Seeks Central Security For EC Officer After Mamata's 'Threats'

A political conflict has erupted in West Bengal over the Election Commission’s proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced strong opposition to the drive, citing recent floods as a reason for delay. Following the Chief Minister’s statements against the Chief Electoral Officer, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has demanded central security for the official. The BJP alleges this is an excuse to protect a compromised voter list. Union Minister Shukanta Majumdar stated, “Actually Mamata Banerjee is suffering from Sr phobia.” The BJP claims the SIR is necessary to remove the names of deceased voters, shifted voters, and alleged illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, which the party says form a vote bank for the ruling Trinamool Congress.
