Addressing a gathering in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP, saying ‘those targeting Bengal will go to hell’ and calling it a ‘party of thieves and goons’. She stated that her party’s only intent is to remove the BJP and protect the country. The Chief Minister alleged that the BJP is using money power to win elections and accused the party of attempting to delete names from the voter list. She asserted that she would not let Prime Minister Narendra Modi snatch the rights of the people. Her nephew and TMC’s second-in-command, Abhishek Banerjee, also criticised the BJP, stating that it is not Hindus or Muslims but India that is in danger. The TMC has been flagging the voter list deletion issue as a major concern ahead of the 2026 West Bengal elections, while the BJP has focused on infiltration across the border and women’s safety as key campaign issues.
