Ahead of upcoming elections in West Bengal, a political battle has erupted with the BJP and TMC exchanging corruption allegations. Home Minister Amit Shah released a 40-page charge sheet accusing the TMC of facilitating infiltration for vote banks, warning that delays in border fencing compromise national security. The BJP alleged that syndicate raj fuels corruption in Bengal, citing multiple scams under TMC rule. Shah also highlighted political violence, murders reflecting a rule of fear, crimes against women going largely unpunished, and economic setbacks due to industry exodus causing a youth job crisis and mass migration. The TMC retaliated sharply, stating that the Bengal leader of opposition faces charges but remains free, Manipur has been burning for three years, and Parliament security lapses occurred. The TMC pointed out that infiltration continues post-Tripura border fencing and accused the BJP of politicising the issue. TMC MP Mahua Moitra called Shah a fugitive in his state and accused him of betraying the country.
