A major political row has erupted between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the Summary Revision (SR) exercise in West Bengal. TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien alleged that during a seven-minute meeting regarding the deletion of 90 lakh names from voter lists, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar misbehaved and told the delegation to "get lost." O’Brien claimed the CEC threatened the team, leading them to storm out. Conversely, ECI sources indicated that O’Brien was the aggressor, shouting at the CEC and refusing to listen to the commission’s response. The TMC contends that the voter list deletions target genuine citizens, while the BJP suggests the TMC is nervous about losing ground. ECI sources maintain the SR process is a constitutional exercise to ensure only genuine Indian citizens vote. India Today’s Aishwarya Paliwal reported that despite the friction, the CEC is coordinating with the West Bengal CEO to ensure genuine voters are not excluded.
