Canadian Member of Parliament Shuvaloy Majumdar, Vice Chair of Canada’s International Human Rights Subcommittee, speaks exclusively to NDTV on the rapidly deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, where violence against minorities—particularly the Hindu community—has surged over the past year.
Reacting to the brutal lynching of Deepu Chandra Das, Majumdar calls the visuals “absolutely horrific” and questions the authority of Bangladesh’s interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. He warns that law and order have collapsed, minorities are being persecuted, media houses attacked, and Islamist elements are regaining influence.
The Canadian MP also raises concerns over the feasibility of elections without restoring the rule of law, reflects on the generational trauma dating back to 1971, and urges the international community to stop “equivocating” on minority persecution.
