In a significant political shift, Nadi Amin, advisor to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman, announced that Rahman has unofficially won his electoral contests in Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17. Amin stated, ‘BNP chairman, our leader, Mr. Tarique Rahman, has already unofficially won in his two electoral seats, Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17.’ He further alleged that political opponents engaged in ‘manipulation, fraud, and center occupation’ during the polling process. The 13th National Parliamentary Election, held on February 12, 2026, marks a major turning point following the 2024 ouster of Sheikh Hasina. Early trends suggest a thumping majority for the BNP, with Tarique Rahman emerging as the frontrunner for the Prime Minister’s office after 17 years in exile. Simultaneously, citizens voted in a referendum on constitutional reforms proposed by Muhammad Yunus’ interim government, including prime ministerial term limits and a transition to a bicameral legislature. The BNP has notably refrained from victory rallies as a mark of respect for the late Khaleda Zia.
