Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said the elections in Bangladesh should be held by December amidst a dilly dallying by the interim government on announcing election dates in the country. Critics of Muhammad Yunus have accused him of trying to cling on to power by using students’ bodies as a front with the backing of hardline Islamic groups like the Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh. The army chief told army officers that his stance on elections remains unchanged, and it is the right of an elected government to determine the country’s future course.
