An encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich communal riot case has sparked a political blowout. Accused, Sarfaraz alias Rinku and Taleem were shot in the legs by UP police, who claim they were attempting to flee to Nepal. The incident has reignited charges of ‘Encounter Raj’ in Uttar Pradesh, with the Samajwadi Party leading the criticism. The encounter followed communal violence in Bahraich on October 13 during a Durga idol immersion procession, in which 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra was shot dead. The family of the accused had previously expressed fears of an encounter.
