Astronomers using China’s FAST radio telescope have possibly discovered a “dark galaxy” — a mysterious starless gas cloud named AC G185.0−11.5. Found within a high-velocity spinning cloud, this object contains no stars and is made entirely of hydrogen gas, yet behaves like a galaxy. Scientists believe a large dark matter halo holds it together. If confirmed, this discovery could help explain the “missing satellite” problem in cosmology and offer the first real glimpse of galaxies made only of dark matter and gas, hiding in plain sight within our cosmic neighborhood.
