In a significant blow to Congress ahead of the Assam assembly elections, two-time MP and manifesto committee chairman Pradyut Bordoloi has joined the BJP, citing humiliation, suffocation and isolation within the party. The defection follows former Assam Congress president’s recent switch to BJP. Speaking on the show, political analyst Ashutosh dismissed defectors as opportunistic politicians seeking greener pastures, whilst BJP national spokesperson Sanju Verma highlighted that Bordoloi had written multiple letters to the high command expressing dissatisfaction but received no response. Congress spokesperson Happy Gogoi defended the party leadership, calling Bordoloi’s move opportunistic and a betrayal of grassroots workers. Amitabh Tiwari, founder of Vote Vibe, noted that 37 of BJP’s 60 MLAs in Assam are ex-congressmen, suggesting a sustained exodus. The panel debated whether Congress can recover from this setback or if the party is effectively preparing for the 2031 elections under Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership.
