A major political row has erupted in Assam as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has levelled serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife, Elizabeth. Sarma claimed that Elizabeth, a British national, was ‘groomed and placed in India’ by Ali Tokhi Sheikh, a figure allegedly linked to the Pakistan government. The Chief Minister further alleged that Gaurav Gogoi led a delegation to the Pakistan High Commission and suggested that a subsequent visit by Pakistani envoy Abdul Basit to Assam warrants an internal probe.
