Arnab Goswami: Congress Must Reply To BJP’s Charge Of Sonia Gandhi on Voter List Before Being A Citizen
It has become a question of national importance that whether or not Sonia Gandhi was named in 1980 electoral roll, while she was still a citizen of Italy. The question was raised amid Congress’ newly-formulated protest on ‘vote-chori’ and them calling for Special Intensive Revisions. Anurag Thakur, in a press conference, asked this question to Sonia Gandhi, and by extension to all of Congress.
Arnab Goswami, Republic Media Network’s Editor-in-Chief, emphasizes that Sonia Gandhi, then married to Rajiv Gandhi, only accepted Indian citizenship in 1983. She refused Indian citizenship even though her husband, Rajiv Gandhi was an Indian. It took Sonia Gandhi 15 years from her marriage to accept the Indian citizenship. The Congress must clarify, as then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s spouse’s nationality is a matter of public concern, even to this day.
