During a demonstration against the economic policies of President Javier Milei’s administration in front of Argentina’s Congress, pensioners and supporters of several soccer teams clashed with police. What started out as a nonviolent protest in Buenos Aires descended into altercations with police officers using tear gas, water cannons, and pellets against some of the demonstrators who were hurling stones at the police. For several weeks, seniors in Buenos Aires have been protesting changes that they claim have made their quality of life more unstable. Stadium limitations for rioters were threatened by the administration of President Javier Milei, who has been enforcing a strategy of increasing public spending since taking office a year and a half ago.
