Leung stated that ‘Iran strategy is trying to put pressure on American politics to end the war’ by prolonging the conflict and spreading chaos globally. Leung highlighted that Iran has stockpiled missiles and cheap drones to sustain a prolonged war, aiming to create global disruption and pressure on the United States to cease hostilities. Leung noted that China is ‘heavily dependent on oil from the Middle East,’ but emphasised that China has alternative supply routes, including a rail line between Iran and China that became fully operational last year. Leung argued that China is in a ‘relatively better position to broker a deal’ due to its strategic alliances with Russia and Iran, and its dominance in rare earth supply chains. Leung also referenced former US strategist Zbigniew Brzezinski’s book, The Grand Chess Board, describing the China-Russia-Iran tripartite alliance as an ‘existential threat to American dominance.’ The speaker questioned the sustainability of the US military arsenal amid the ongoing conflict.
