At the India Today AI Summit, Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog and India’s G20 Sherpa, emphasized that the AI revolution must be driven by cutting-edge entrepreneurs rather than government officials. He stated, ‘an AI revolution can only be fueled by cutting-edge entrepreneurs, not by ministers or not by civil servants like me.’ Kant highlighted that India’s model for AI should be based on digital public infrastructure to ensure accessibility and affordability, avoiding the digital divide seen in the West. He pointed out that India is uniquely positioned to lead in sustainable AI due to its 260 gigawatt renewable energy capacity and smart grid infrastructure. Addressing concerns about job losses, Kant argued that while certain roles may disappear, there will be significant gains in fields like data science and machine learning. He concluded by advocating for free enterprise to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of a 30 trillion dollar economy, urging that AI be integrated into education from an early age.
