Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the ‘Modi Pongal’ celebrations in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, on Monday, marking a significant outreach ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Shah, accompanied by BJP leaders including Piyush Goyal and Former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, witnessed the preparation of 1,008 Pongal pots in Srirangam. Speaking to India Today, Tamilisai Soundararajan stated, ‘We have celebrated the first political party… to celebrate the Tamil Pongal, that is Modiji Pongal’. The event highlighted the BJP’s cultural push, with Shah also visiting the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple. The Home Minister targeted the ruling DMK, accusing it of dynastic politics, while asserting that the NDA would form the government in the state.
