Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Rajya Sabha on the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’, launched a scathing attack on the Congress party. Shah asserted that the ‘policy of appeasement’ began with the opposition to Vande Mataram, which ultimately led to the country’s partition. He stated, ‘Had the song not been divided due to appeasement politics, the partition of India would not have happened.’ Shah also criticized the Emergency era, claiming those who sang the national song were jailed. Emphasizing the song’s role in the freedom struggle and its relevance for ‘Viksit Bharat’, he declared Vande Mataram is not limited to Bengal but belongs to the entire nation.
