Highlighting the song’s role in the freedom struggle, Shah stated that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay established the concept of ‘Cultural Nationalism’ (Sanskritik Rashtravad) through this composition. He recalled Bankim Babu’s sentiment: ‘Mujhe koi aapatti nahi hai Mere sabhi sahitya ko Ganga Ji Mein Baha diya jaye yeh mantra vande mataram anant Kal Tak jivit rahega’. Shah emphasized that Vande Mataram awakened a nation that had forgotten its divine power.
