A rocky exoplanet just 41 light-years away, GJ 1132 b, has stunned astronomers by losing its atmosphere — and then regrowing a new one. First discovered in 2015, this Earth-sized world was once found to have a hydrogen atmosphere, which later vanished. New observations using the Hubble Space Telescope reveal that the planet now sports a different atmospheric mix, including hydrogen cyanide, methane, and ammonia. Scientists believe volcanic activity and a hot planetary core helped create this second atmosphere. This remarkable find could reshape the search for alien life and our understanding of planetary evolution beyond the Solar System.
