In a candid conversation at India Today Conclave, Akshay Kumar opened up about his career spanning 150 films and work with 60-70 directors. The actor discussed his strong working relationship with director Priyadarshan, with whom he is reuniting for Bhoot Bangla. Kumar credited three filmmakers for teaching him comedy: Priyadarshan, Rajkumar Santoshi, and the late Neeraj Vora. He addressed what he sees as an unfair treatment of comedy in Hindi cinema awards, stating that actors doing comedy are labeled comedians rather than receiving best actor recognition. Kumar argued that making people laugh is the hardest genre, saying romantic actors receive best actor awards but comedy performers do not get the same recognition. When asked if he felt denied his due in awards despite his box office success, Kumar said he gave up on awards long ago, adding, ‘I found the rewards were more interesting than the awards.’ He described himself as a commercial actor who finds fulfillment when audiences, especially children, enjoy his comedy films.
