He clarified that his choice of films and public actions are not calculated attempts to build a specific persona, stating, "I am not doing anything to create an image." Kumar explained that he sought Canadian citizenship during a professional low point in the 1990s when he faced a string of over 15 consecutive flops and considered a business venture abroad. However, the success of his subsequent releases kept him in India, leading him to eventually forget about the travel document. He emphasized his deep connection to India, asserting, "I am a Hindustani and will always remain one." Kumar also highlighted his record as a top taxpayer in India, noting that even while holding a Canadian passport, he never paid taxes in Canada. He concluded by expressing that he has now renounced his Canadian citizenship to put the matter to rest.
