In this exclusive interview, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar addresses the possibility of an alliance between his NCP faction and the one led by Sharad Pawar for local body elections. Pawar clarifies that the initiative for the alliance came from party workers. He states, ‘…hamare Poona aur Pimpri Chinchwad ke wahan ke karyakarta hai, unhone mujhe kaha ki dada yeh Tutari saath aur Ghadiya, Ghadi saath main agar aaye, toh hamein votoं का baṭwara jo hone wala hai, woh nahi hoga’ (Our party workers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad told me that if the ‘Tutari’ and ‘Ghadi’ symbols come together, the division of votes can be avoided). Pawar also reveals that some opposition MPs are frustrated with the lack of development funds in their constituencies and feel that being part of the ruling party would be more beneficial, a sentiment he notes was not as prevalent in the past.
