A Congress MP on board claimed the flight was hit by unprecedented turbulence after takeoff. The MP also stated that two aircraft were on one runway in Chennai, and the pilot’s quick thinking averted a massive tragedy. Five MPs were among the passengers on the diverted flight. Air India issued a statement confirming a precautionary diversion due to a technical issue, stating the flight landed safely in Chennai and necessary checks were conducted. The MP has raised serious questions to the Aviation Ministry and the DGCA, stating, ‘with sheer luck and skill that saved us and all the other passengers. But moving forward, that’s not possible. There should be clarity and there should be clear investigation conducted into this incident is what we think.’ The flight reportedly hovered over Chennai for approximately two hours awaiting clearance.
