A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court concerning the June 12 crash of Air India flight 171. The petition, by a non-profit foundation, seeks a court-monitored independent investigation and alleges selective disclosure in the preliminary report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). The plea contends the report violates the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017. It alleges the report contains "paraphrase references…without timestamp, without the full transcript or a corroborative context." A key point raised is a potential conflict of interest, as the petition states that three of the five members of the investigating team were from the DGCA, the aviation regulator responsible for certifying the aircraft and overseeing its airworthiness. This arrangement, according to the petitioner, has resulted in a direct conflict of interest.
