An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flight AI 171, crashed near Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, marking the first catastrophic loss of this aircraft model since its 2011 debut. The flight was en route to London and was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The plane exploded into a fireball upon impact, resulting in over 200 feared casualties. One survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, miraculously escaped and recounted the terrifying experience. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was confirmed among the deceased. Home Minister Amit Shah visited the crash site. Investigators are relying on the black box to uncover the cause. The crash has had immediate financial repercussions, with Boeing shares dropping 8% in US pre-market trading. The Tata Group announced compensation of one crore rupees for each victim’s family.
