Ali referred to the Kavariyas as troublemakers and even terrorists, demanding they be jailed for causing chaos. He stated, "They are terrorists. They are creating a ruckus. They have made it difficult for people to live in the country by closing the roads." This prompted a strong reaction from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who defended the pilgrimage and criticized those attempting to defame it. Adityanath accused certain groups of a media trial against the devotees and insulting India’s heritage. The AIMIM leader also contrasted the government’s stance on the Kanwar Yatra with restrictions placed on Muharram processions, questioning what he described as a double standard.
