AIADMK has released its first list of 23 candidates for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, featuring veteran leaders including General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, D Jayakumar, SP Velumani, Dindigul Srinivasan, and Natham Vishwanathan. Most candidates are former ministers from the previous AIADMK cabinet. DMK’s TKS Elangovan responded, stating AIADMK retained old faces due to pressure after losing many leaders to other parties. Meanwhile, NTK leader Seeman criticised DMK over MP Kanimozhi not being given an assembly ticket, alleging concerns about multiple power centres within DMK as Udhayanidhi Stalin is being groomed as the next leader. Over 140 nominations have been filed on Kanimozhi’s behalf, primarily from Thiruchendur and Tirunelveli constituencies. In a major development, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam decided not to contest the elections after seat-sharing talks with DMK, though MNM will support the alliance. TVK’s Adhav Arjuna claimed Congress cadres are unhappy with the DMK alliance, prompting Congress to suspend a general secretary for anti-party activities.
