On the 78th birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami announced major election promises including Rs 10,000 annually for each family in Tamil Nadu and Rs 2,000 for graduates, describing this as a ventilator process to help families cope with increased property tax, water tax and electricity bills under the DMK government. Meanwhile, VK Sasikala, who still considers herself AIADMK General Secretary, visited the memorials of Jayalalithaa, MGR and Anna before heading to Ramanathapuram to make her own major announcement. In Kerala, the Union Cabinet is set to approve changing the state’s name from Kerala to Keralam following a unanimous resolution passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly to preserve linguistic identity and cultural heritage. The Kerala High Court decided to watch the film Kerala Story 2 before ruling on a petition, observing that since the makers used Kerala’s name, the concerns of the people cannot be ignored. A Central Pollution Control Board report revealed that vegetables sold in Bengaluru contain dangerously high lead levels, with organic brinjal showing lead content 20 times above the safe limit.
