Dr. Torsten Schwede discussed Switzerland-India collaboration on artificial intelligence at the India AI Impact Summit. He emphasized that AI should be democratized and made accessible to all, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision. Schwede revealed that Switzerland has published an open AI model capable of handling up to 1,000 languages simultaneously, with data and training completely transparent. He stated, ‘I think there’s much more responsibility in the human that uses it. Because in the end, it’s a tool. You can use it for the good, or you can use it for something harmful.’ A protein structure prediction researcher, Schwede highlighted AI’s role in disease study and drug design. He announced a collaboration framework between the Swiss National Science Foundation and Indian funding agencies, supporting bottom-up research partnerships. Schwede noted that Switzerland and India could learn from each other, with India’s young society quick to adopt technologies while Switzerland offers high-tech expertise.
