Afghan forces claim 55 Pakistan soldiers have been killed in the operation and state they are ‘highly motivated and committed to defending the country’ and will give a ‘crushing response to any aggressor’. The Afghan border force spokesperson made these claims on camera. Pakistan has indicated it will launch a full-scale war and will not back down this time. The escalation comes after negotiations took place in Doha with Qatar stepping in to mediate. Afghanistan has stated it will defend its territorial integrity. The Durand line has historically been a contentious area and has been at the heart of past conflicts in the region, with escalations occurring from time to time over this disputed border area.
