Afghanistan Quake: Over 800 Killed, India Rushes Aid as Rescue Ops Continue

Rescue operations are underway in eastern Afghanistan after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the region late Sunday, killing over 800 people and injuring more than 2,500. The quake, which was followed by a 4.7 magnitude aftershock, has reduced numerous homes to rubble, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue teams search for survivors. In response to the tragedy, India has extended its support. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the lives lost and "assured all possible assistance and support." External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has spoken with his Afghan counterpart, initiating the delivery of relief materials. So far, a thousand tents and 15 tons of aid have been dispatched to the affected Kunar province, with more relief scheduled to be sent.
