Afghanistan has launched a large-scale retaliatory offensive along the disputed Durand Line following recent Pakistani airstrikes. The Afghanistan Taliban spokesperson announced that Afghan fighters had captured multiple Pakistani military positions, claiming 15 posts have been overrun. The offensive was initiated in response to what Afghanistan described as repeated provocations and violations by Pakistani military forces. Pakistan has not yet publicly confirmed these claims. The escalation follows Pakistani airstrikes that Afghanistan alleges targeted civilians, including a seminary, resulting in 18 deaths. Afghanistan had warned it would take retaliatory action at a time and place of its own choosing. The operations are concentrated in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces along the border. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid shared pictures of the captured positions on social media. The situation remains extremely tense along the 2,600-kilometre border, which Afghanistan does not recognise as an international boundary.
