As the UK economy faces post-Brexit pressure, this FTA provides access to India’s market, with tariffs on items like Scotch whiskey cut from 170% to 40%. The talks cover expanding India’s exports and cooperation in clean energy, technology, and medicine. The visit also led to the announcement of a new Mumbai-Manchester direct flight. Meanwhile, a new chapter in India-Afghanistan ties begins with the first visit of Afghanistan’s foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to Delhi, a significant step as India has not officially recognised the Taliban government.
