The Aam Aadmi Party–led Punjab government has launched a major program for pregnant women.
Through its 883 Aam Aadmi Clinics, all pregnancy-related tests and ultrasounds are now being provided completely free of cost.
According to the Aam Aadmi Party, urgent intervention was needed because in Punjab, less than 70% of pregnant women earlier went for their first check-up, and the maternal mortality rate stood at 90 deaths per one lakh births. Every year, around 4.3 lakh women become pregnant in the state.
