Speaking at the India Today Conclave in Mumbai, the MLA from Worli commented on a recent, widely discussed family reunion during Ganesh Chaturthi, stating it was a family meeting after nearly 20 years and was about ‘protecting Maharashtra and this is about protecting the people of Maharashtra’. He dismissed the notion that the meeting was to protect the ‘Thackeray brand’ ahead of the upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections. When questioned about a comparison made by Devendra Fadnavis between the ‘Thackeray brand’ and the ‘Modi brand’, the speaker alleged, ‘one brand has a little more weightage in vote theft. We have a little more weightage in genuine voters’. The political discourse was framed not as a personal or party issue, but as a fight for the ‘astitva of Mumbai and Maharashtra as against the forces that are trying to demolish it’.
