A River Reborn: How Kanpur's Noon River Revival Became a Model for Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur has become the first district to revive a river under the state’s ‘one district, one river’ program. The Noon River, approximately 48.6 kilometers long, which had vanished over time, has been brought back to life through the efforts of the district administration and local communities. The project, executed largely through the Manrega scheme, involved mapping the river’s course using drone and satellite surveys. The revival has had a significant social and agricultural impact, preventing floods and enabling farmers to cultivate rice and maize using river water. Divisional Commissioner of Kanpur, Mr. Vijendra Pandey, stated, "It’s inspiration to the entire Uttar Pradesh where each and every district can have inspiration from this." The project also connects to the larger Namami Ganga program as the river flows into the Ganga. #noonriver #kanpur #uttarpradesh #itwebvideos #riverrevival #waterislife #indiatoday #namamigange #waterconservation #environment #goodnews #mgnrega #sustainability #communityaction #saverivers #upmodel
