The #MeToo movement across the Malayalam film industry has created waves across the country with several young actors now speaking out about the abuse they faced at the hands of veteran directors, producers, and actors.
A day after Communist Party of India’s leader Annie Raja demanded the resignation of actor and CPI (M) legislator M Mukesh over rape charges, her party’s Kerala unit Friday openly contradicted her remarks, calling it a “state leadership issue”. After a meeting of the state party leadership, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam told the media that Raja was a “national leader” and that “there was a state leadership” to comment on the issue.
Since the findings of the Hema Committee Report were made public, all eyes had turned to industry bigwigs like Mohanlal to issue a statement on the condition of the industry. The demands for the actor to issue a statement severed after his resignation from the AMMA president position. Addressing why he took a long time to break his silence, the 64-year-old actor shared, "Last 47 years I have been with you. I have not run away anywhere. I was not in Kerala for the last several days. I was with my wife who underwent surgery."
