The incident raises serious concerns about the state of media freedom in West Bengal, where journalists critical of the ruling dispensation face threats, intimidation, and, in many cases, physical harassment. Under Mamata Banerjee’s government, there has been a pattern of curbing journalistic freedom, especially when it comes to platforms that challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress ( TMC ) narrative. Republic Media Network’s Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami , strongly condemned the Mamata Banerjee-led government over the hooliganism and use of force against Republic Bangla reporters at Jadavpur University. Calling out the intimidation tactics, Arnab said that his team would not be silenced by "anti-national forces" operating on the campus. He denounced the assault on press freedom, vowing to continue fearless reporting despite attempts to suppress the truth.
