Scientists have uncovered a prehistoric horror frozen in amber — a zombie fungus erupting from a fly’s skull! Trapped in 99-million-year-old tree resin from Myanmar, the fossil shows a mind-controlling fungus hijacking an insect’s body, just like in today’s ants. Alongside it was a juvenile ant similarly infected, revealing some of the oldest examples of parasitic fungi. The discovery proves nature’s gruesome tricks, like zombification, were already thriving during the dinosaur age. Researchers named the ancient fungi Paleoophiocordyceps, offering a chilling glimpse into evolution’s dark side.
