The encounter, which entered its second day in the Sonar forest area of Chhatru, broke out after security forces received specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists. Sunilji Bhatt reports that ‘Seven army personnel were injured in this encounter’ after terrorists hiding on a hilltop lobbed grenades at the search party. Three of the injured soldiers have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for treatment. The operation, which was briefly halted due to darkness, resumed with reinforcements to neutralize two to three suspected Pakistani terrorists. Amidst the encounter, a high alert has been sounded across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Republic Day, with security beefed up along the Line of Control and international borders due to intelligence inputs of terrorist presence in hilly regions.
