A national controversy has erupted over the alleged use of animal fat in the prasad at the Tirumala temple. The National Dairy Development Board’s lab test reportedly found traces of fish oil, beef tallow, and pig fat in some samples of cow ghee procured by the Tirumala Tirupati Devsthanam. The temple board’s statement follows claims by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu that animal fat was used in Tirupati laddus during the previous regime of Jagmohan Reddy.
