6pm Prime: Delhi Elections Date Out | CEC On EVM Debate | Ajith Dubai Car Crash | Tibet Earthquake

The Election Commission of India has issued a detailed rebuttal to opposition claims of EVM tampering. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar defended the integrity of EVMs and the electoral process. The EC also announced the schedule for Delhi Assembly elections, with voting on 5 February and results on 8 February. The announcement has triggered campaigning by major parties AAP, BJP and Congress. The Congress party’s top leadership, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, have been notably absent from campaigning for the Delhi elections. Rahul Gandhi is set to begin campaigning on 13 January, just two weeks before the polls. Questions arise about the Congress strategy and whether they are intentionally downplaying their role due to the India bloc alliance with AAP. A powerful earthquake struck the northern foothills of the Himalayas in Tibet, causing widespread damage. China has deployed 22,000 disaster relief teams with essential supplies to the affected areas. Scenic areas near Mount Everest have been closed to tourists. The tremors were felt in neighbouring Nepal, causing panic in Kathmandu, though no damage has been reported there.
