6 Stories At 6: Bar Associations Unite Amid Judge Cash Scandal | No Action Against Abusive Pastor?
The biggest Judicial Scandal in India’s modern history continues to snowball. While on one hand, the probe has gained pace, on the other, the Bar association members have met with Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna. Calling the meeting fruitful, the Bar association Presidents revealed that the Chief Justice of India accepted all demands that were put forth. Bar Association members from at least 14 distinct states came together for this crucial meeting, to not just discuss the Scandal and how it has dented the image of the Judiciary but to also, raise questions over the effeciencies of the Supreme Court Collegium in general and especially in this case. The anger brewed over a transfer order by the Collegium which mandated for Justice Yashwant Varma’s repatriation to his home court, the Allahabad High Court. Sanjiv Khanna cleared the air around the order saying that Justice Varma will not be given Judicial duties despite the repatriation..
The anger over the allegations against Punjab’s self-styled Pastor is growing. However, the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab seems to remain unmoved, only looking to duck questions and dodge accountability or even action against the Pastor. Viewers, multiple women have come forward to voice the horrific ordeal that was perpetrated by the Pastor in question, Bajinder Singh. While it takes courage to break silence on matters so grave, the victims have found the strength to come forward and bring the henious incidents to light. However, these allegations are being met with no action from the side of the state authorities. A predator, disguised as a pastor seems to be getting away with his henious crimes from right under the nose of Punjab’s AAP government. The question is not just about the safety of women, the question is not just about a mockery being made of the faith of people in Punjab, the question is also about why is the government turning its back on these assault survivors? Why is the government silent for so long and when will this silence end?..
