The Delhi government has initiated a campaign to combat air pollution by prohibiting the refueling of old petrol and diesel vehicles, following a 2018 Supreme Court ruling. Petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years are banned from refueling at petrol pumps. This directive from the Commission for Air Quality Management applies to private vehicles, trucks, government vehicles, and ambulances, with fuel stations equipped with cameras to detect non-compliant vehicles. Violators face fines and vehicle impounding. The move aims to reduce vehicular pollution but may impact lower-income groups. Restrictions will likely extend to five NCR districts from November 1st. Concurrently, the Karnataka Chief Minister has ordered a study into the increasing number of heart attack deaths in Hassan district, suggesting a possible link to COVID vaccines, contrary to Indian Council of Medical Research studies. Two committees have been formed: one for Hassan heart attack cases and another for a statewide investigation. In Hassan, 23 people have died in the last 40 days, with victims aged 50 to 63. Dr. Naresh Trehan emphasized preventive checkups for those with a family history of heart disease or diabetes, noting that COVID infections, rather than vaccines, have been linked to heart inflammation.
