A special court has acquitted all seven accused, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Purohit, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The verdict comes after a 17-year-long trial concerning the blast that killed six people and injured over 100. The court determined the prosecution failed to prove its case, stating the allegations were "just a narrative" unsupported by evidence. The judgment highlighted multiple investigative lapses, including a faulty panchnama, a contaminated crime scene, and the improper application of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The judge observed that while there was "Grave suspicion… mere suspicion cannot take the prosecution and take that case ahead." The case was handled by four agencies, including the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which had initially termed it ‘Saffron Terror’, and was later transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
